What's Google Things To Do
Google Things to Do is a feature that allows experience providers (tour operators, activity organizers, attractions, and cultural venues), like you, to display their offerings directly across Google. Getting your business and tours listed on "Things to do" is a simple way to boost direct bookings and increase visibility right where people are planning their trips. The best part? You can do it for free!
Benefits of Listing on Google Things to Do
- Increase your traffic by sending visitors directly to your website to book.
- Gain new customers as they research specific activities or locations.
- Since there are no commission fees for Google, you can increase and retain all of your revenue.
- Build trust by showing up next to your business profile and reviews.
Requirements and Restrictions
Before you start, make sure your business and experiences meet Google’s criteria:
- You must offer tours, activities, or experiences (virtual or in-person).
- Your Business Profile is up to date and in one of Google’s supported business categories (Tour operator, Travel agency, Tour agency, Tourist attraction, etc).
- You need a working booking system/website where users can easily make the purchase.
- Ensure your site offers a good experience. Meaning, it loads quickly and is mobile-friendly.
- Comply with Google’s Things to Do content and user experience policies.
- Also, your service must not be:
-
- A classified ad or listing marketplace.
- Primarily an accommodation or transportation service.
- A wholesale or B2B-only provider.
-
The feature is not available for all regions or business categories.
How to List Your Activities
1. Via a Connectivity Partner
If you're already working with one of Google's Things to Do connectivity partners, they can publish your products on your behalf. However, remember that they may charge a commission/fee or direct traffic to your product through their own landing page. Additionally, access to the Google Ads integration is only available through the official connectivity partners.
TuriTop is not currently a connectivity partner, but we are working to bring this integration in the future.
2. Via Your Google Business Profile
This is the best option if you want full control over your links and pricing. Check out the next section to learn how to set it up.
How to List Your Activities via Your Google Business Profile
This option allows you to add a direct booking link to your Google Business Profile. To configure it, follow the steps below:
Step 1: Set Up or Claim Your Google Business Profile
If you already have your Business Profile, skip to step 3.
Go to the Google Business Profile Manager and sign in with your Google account.
Search for your business. If it shows up, click "Claim this business". If it doesn’t appear, click "Add your business to Google".
Follow the prompts to input your name, category, location, website, etc.
Also, make sure to choose the correct category:
-
-
- For Experiences like cooking classes, walking tours, or adventure activities: try categories like "Tourist Attraction", "Experience Provider", or "Recreational Activity Provider".
- For Tours (e.g., guided city tours, boat tours, museum tours): use "Tour Operator" or more specific ones like "Boat Tour Agency" or "Sightseeing Tour Agency".
-
For more information, you can always check the Get-Started Guide.
Step 2: Verify your Business
If you have already, skip to step 3.
Verify your business to prove to Google that you are the rightful owner/manager and ensure full control of the business profile.
In your Business Profile Manager >>> Businesses, you will see a list of all your claimed businesses, check if they are verified or not, and click on "Get verified" to start the process.
Once your business is verified you will see the following icon and message on your business card:
Follow this tutorial to learn more about the different verification methods available.
Step 3: Add Your Booking Link
Once your profile is live and verified, you can begin to publish your services. Search for your business on Google while logged into the Google account that manages the profile.
Then click Tickets or Activities (depending on your business category).
For experiences and tours, the editor will be labeled “Activities”, for other business categories the module will be named "Tickets".
Click on "Get Started" to pass the instructions window.
After, the Editor will request basic details about your service, such as the name, description, price, etc. In the "Where can people book this activity online?" section include the URL to your website where the service can be booked.
Click on "Save & continue" to move to a second window where you will (optionally) be able to upload more details about your service, such as a photo and the duration:
Once filled, click on "Save" to load it into "Things to do".
Google doesn’t provide a guaranteed timeline, and there’s no certainty that your experience will appear in the Things to Do module. Visibility depends on how well your listed Point of Interest and business category align with Google’s eligibility criteria.
After adding the first service, you will be able to see a list of all your Activities/Tickets. Here you can edit or delete them:
Where Your Activities Will Appear Once Set Up
- Google Search: When users search for your business or relevant queries (e.g., “kayak tour in Lisbon”).
- Google Maps: When travelers browse a region and click on your location.
- Google Travel: Under the "Things to do" tab in destination searches (like “Things to do in Paris”).
- Mobile Searches: Your profile includes a "Book Online" link.
- Google Things to Do Listings: Your official site links will appear under major attractions if your activity is associated with one (e.g., "Eiffel Tower tour" showing under "Eiffel Tower" results).
